Congress Sweeps Himachal with Thumping Majority

With the Congress winning the Himachal Pradesh polls, its leaders and poll pundits credited party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra's campaign in the hill state for the good showing of the party in the assembly elections

The Congress has crossed the majority mark and won the Himachal Pradesh Assembly Elections 2022. As many as 36 seats are required to win the polls, and Congress secured 40 of the total 68 seats. Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister and BJP leader Jiaram Thakur has conceded defeat and has resigned soon from the CM post. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) could be seen nowhere in the picture and most of their candidates’ security deposit has been forefeited. BJP secured 25 seats while independents bagged 3 seats.

 

Polling for the 68-member Himachal Pradesh Assembly was held on November 12. The election assumed significance as it was BJP chief J P Nadda’s home turf. Mr. Nadda was given a free hand and he was actively involved in managing and strategizing Himachal Election he failed miserably in his home state; he has a lot to answer to his Boss in Delhi.

Priyanka Gandhi led the party’s charge in Himachal Pradesh with several rallies and was also closely involved in strategic planning for the polls. Many leaders hailed her leadership in securing the win for the party and defeating the BJP’s election machinery.

 

Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi said, “Heartfelt thanks to the people of Himachal Pradesh for this decisive victory. Hearty congratulations to all Congress workers and leaders. Your hard work and dedication are truly behind this victory,” he said in a tweet in Hindi. “I assure you again, every promise made to the public will be fulfilled at the earliest,” Gandhi added.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) which contested the assembly polls in Himachal Pradesh for the first time drew a blank securing just 1.10 percent of the total votes cast. The poor and dismal performance of AAP dashed its hope of emerging as a strong third force in the state.

All the exit polls and opinion polls predicted BJP win in Himachal Pradesh, but the strategy, planning and use of technology in election process certainly helped Congress to win it big the state. Himachal Win will be a big boost to the morale and confidence of Congress Party.
