Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Friday, initiated Global Positioning System (GPS) tracking in all its ambulances for better COVID management and quicker transportation of patients to COVID hospitals and COVID Care Centres.
According to reports, the city authorities have fleet of 64 ambulance under the COVID management program. 40 of those have already become GPS enabled. The rest 24 ambulance will be upgraded with the tracking devices soon. Presently, three ambulances are deployed in each BMC zone. There number will be increase to have ambulances available in each zone.
‘GPS provides an estimated time of arrival of the ambulance to the patient’s residence just like we know the location of a taxi when we book through various apps on our mobile phones providing taxi rental services, ‘ BMC official stated.
