South African scientist has identified a new variant of the corona virus, C.1.2. According to the report, there are several mutations in the new variant. The Corona variant C.1.2 was first identified in May in Mpumalanga, South Africa. Johannesburg and the capital, Pretoria, are located in the Mpumalanga province. An African scientist has claimed this in a research paper.

This variant of the corona has been identified as of August 13 in 9 provinces of South Africa. The variant has also been identified in Congo, Mauritius, Portugal, New Zealand and Switzerland. The ability to transmit viral antibodies has also increased. The research paper says all of these risks should be addressed because of the mutation in the virus.

The number of cases of infections worldwide has risen sharply due to the Delta variant, which was first identified in India. The World Health Organization (WHO) initially said the mutation was “worrying”. Once the covid strain is detected, it is categorized for variant for concern in order to make it more aggressive or serious.

Corona C.1.2. of Option C.1. family is responsible for the first wave of the coronavirus in South Africa. The first wave of corona was seen in South Africa in mid-2020. The strain showed 44 to 50 mutations compared to the virus detected for the first time in Wuhan, China. The research paper was published by the South African Kwazulu Natal Research Innovation and Sequencing Platform (KRISP) and the National Institute for Communicable Diseases.
