The Health Department on Saturday recommend ways to contain the spread of COVID-19 and ensure the safety of kids during the second wave of the pandemic.

As per the panel recommendation, if a baby born to a COVID infected person should be given to the mother only when she becomes noninfectious. The kid will be kept in the Newborn Stabilisation Unit (NBSU) or (SNCU) Sick Newborn Stabilisation Unit till the mother fully recovered from COVID-19.

In the case of COVID positive parents in home isolation, the child needs to be separated from the infected parents till they become non-infectious and other members of the family are required to take care of the baby.

If a newborn is found positive for the virus and sick, he/She needs to be admitted to a COVID hospital.
