Bhubaneswar, July 5 (newsalert24x7): In a historic boost to West Bengal’s healthcare infrastructure, the Adani Group is all set to establish a mega 2,000-bed modern hospital-cum-health city in the New Town area near Kolkata. In a significant philanthropic commitment, half of the entire facility's capacity will provide completely free treatment to underprivileged patients.

The high-profile announcement was made on Saturday by West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari during an interaction with members of the civil society and business leaders in his Bhabanipur assembly constituency, organized by the Alipore Citizens' Association. Outlining his government’s key administrative achievements over the past two months, CM Adhikari confirmed that the state government has officially received a written commitment from the conglomerate.

Dual Framework: Commercial Care Meets Free Welfare

The project is being envisioned as a world-class facility that strikes a balance between advanced commercial medical services and corporate social responsibility (CSR):

  • Total Capacity: 2,000 beds spread across a premium superspeciality infrastructure.
  • The Welfare Allocation: 1,000 beds will be permanently reserved for the free treatment of poor and marginalized patients.
  • The Commercial Wing: The remaining 1,000 beds will operate commercially to sustain the medical infrastructure and fund high-end medical research.
Global Collaboration with Mayo Clinic: Top administrative sources reveal that the project, likely to be named Adani Arogya Mandir, will be set up on a massive 51-acre plot in New Town Action Area 2. The project is expected to see an initial investment of at least ₹2,500 crore and is being developed in technical and knowledge collaboration with the world-renowned Mayo Clinic of the United States.

The state-of-the-art facility will feature an IT-enabled smart hospital management system and advanced robotic surgery wings, aiming to prevent residents from having to travel to other states for complex treatments. The ground-breaking ceremony is slated to take place before the Durga Puja festivities this year.

Part of Adani's Expanding Healthcare Footprint

This multi-crore project marks the Adani Group’s third major health city hub in India, following similar high-capacity projects in Mumbai and Ahmedabad.

The group has been rapidly expanding its presence in the healthcare sector through the Adani Foundation. In May, the group successfully launched the 'ACE-Adani Centre for Eye Diseases' in Bihar to deliver highly accessible eye care alongside specialized training academies for women healthcare workers. Furthermore, the group recently scaled up the Adharshila Renal Care Project at Delhi's Lady Hardinge Medical College, significantly reinforcing public dialysis infrastructure.

With this new milestone in New Town, the group aims to fill deep-seated systemic gaps in eastern India's medical ecosystem while strengthening the state's public wellness net.
