TWO DAYS, THREE MURDERS: BHUBANESWAR'S LAW-AND-ORDER SITUATION UNDER SCRUTINY
Bhubaneswar (newsalert24x7): A spate of three murder incidents reported within just two days has raised serious concerns over public safety and law and order in Odisha's capital.
The latest incident took place in Shishupalgarh, where 25-year-old Tapu Nayak was allegedly shot dead following a dispute that reportedly erupted after a gathering involving alcohol consumption. Initially, the shooting was believed to have occurred near the Mausi Maa Chhak flyover, but subsequent police investigation reportedly identified Shishupalgarh as the actual crime scene. In another development, police and fire service personnel recovered a firearm from the Gangua Canal, where it was allegedly thrown after the incident.
Family Alleges Conspiracy and Robbery
Meanwhile, Tapu's family has levelled serious allegations, claiming that Umesh Patnaik and some of his associates had called him out of the house before the shooting. The family also alleged that Tapu was carrying ₹80,000 in cash and a gold chain when he left home.
These allegations are yet to be established, and police are investigating all aspects of the case. Around 10 people have reportedly been questioned as investigators work to reconstruct the sequence of events, establish the motive and identify everyone involved.
Spate of Murders Across the Capital
The Shishupalgarh shooting has added to the concern following two other murder cases reported in the Gadagada and Laxmisagar areas during the same two-day period.
The incidents have sparked questions among residents about security arrangements, police patrolling and crime prevention across the city. Citizens are seeking a thorough investigation, accountability and effective measures to prevent further incidents.
As the police probe continues, attention remains focused on uncovering the circumstances behind Tapu Nayak's death and bringing those found responsible to justice. With three murder cases reported in a short span, Bhubaneswar's law-and-order situation has come under renewed public scrutiny.
